Overview
- Commenst cause of death in first year of life. Most common at 3 months of age.
- Major Risk Factors → putting baby to sleep prone, parental smoking, prematurity, bed sharing, hyperthermia.
- Protective Factors → breastfeeding, room sharing, use of dummies.

- Prevention ⇒
- Infants should be put to sleep on their back.
- Can cause flattened occiput (plagiocephaly).
- Avoid overheating.
- Place ‘feet to foot’ position.
- No smoking exposure.
- Baby in parents’ bedroom for first 6 months.
- Baby not in parents’ bed when they are tired or have drank alcohol.
- Ideally should be breastfed.
