Traffic Light System for Feverish Child
- For children <5 years. Temperature, HR, RR, CRT and signs of dehydration should be assessed.
- Red (Refer Urgently to Paediatric Specialist):
- Respiratory → grunting, RR>60, moderate or severe recessions.
- Hydration → reduced skin turgor.
- Age <3 months + Temp >38°C.
Neurocutaneous Syndromes (all AD)
- Neurofibromatosis Type 1 → associated with MEN2. ≥6 cafe au lait spots, axiallary/groin freckles, optic glioma, phaeochromacytomas, neurofibromas.
- NF2→ bilateral acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, ependymomas.
- Tuberous Sclerosis → ‘ash leaf’ patch.
Neonatal Resuscitation
- Dry Baby
- Within 30s → assess tone, RR, HR (femoral, brachial) and colour
- Within 60s → not breathing: open airway, 5 inflation breaths (via face mask).
- Repeat 5 inflation breaths until chest movement seen.
- Chest moves, HR slow (<60bpm) → ventilate for 30s
- Chest moves, HR slow (<60bpm) → chest compressions + ventilation (3:1)
- Reassess HR every 30s → consider venous access and drugs
Apgar Score → after 1 minute, 5 minutes, then every subsequent 5 minutes.
