Overview
- Peripartum Cardiomyopathy → new-onset cardiomyopathy and heart failure within the last month of pregnancy to 5 months post-partum.
- 40% rise in blood volume during pregnancy. Women with cardiac disease cannot increase cardiac output leading to uterine hypoperfusion and increased pulmonary oedema.

Management Plan
- Anticoagulation → LMWH (warfarin is teratogenic in first trimester).
- Avoid ergometrine in those with cardiac disease.
